Saving a 10th wedding anniversary for Ubud: a pool villa, two massages and a morning without an alarm

Grace runs a dental clinic in Kaohsiung and usually plans every minute for her patients. This time, she just wanted to be the one being taken care of. On HAOTIVA, she put a villa in Bali, massages and a sunrise yoga class in the rice fields together into a two-night trip.

No more playing trip planner this time

Grace and her husband run a dental clinic together in Kaohsiung. Every wedding anniversary, she's always the one who books the room, checks transportation and lines up restaurants, and the trip ends up feeling like a business trip. For their 10th, she made a deal with herself: she'd decide only "what it should feel like" and leave the rest to the tools.

She typed "Bali" into the HAOTIVA search box. A summary line at the top of the results page told her how many results there were, the average price and "Book the stay and experience together, no need to match up time slots yourself." On the left you can filter by type and theme, and she clicked "Spa"; on the right, the map pinned each option in the valleys of Ubud. Bali and Taiwan are in the same time zone, so there's no time difference to adjust to when you fly in, and the destination cards on the home page point that out.

Search results page: at the top are partner venues that are already listed, below them "Featured samples" lists demo itineraries, with filters such as type on the left and a map marking each place on the right.

Ubud Valley Villas: everything that's included, on one page

She chose "Ubud, Bali | Infinity pool villa + 90-min traditional massage": two nights in a private pool villa in the jungle, with a 90-minute traditional Balinese massage on the afternoon of the second day. Under the title, it shows Bali · Indonesia and "2 nights + 90 min."

There are two plans: the one-bedroom villa from NT$12,800, for 2 nights with massages for 2, and the two-bedroom river valley villa from NT$21,600, for 4 people with massages for 4. With just the two of them, they went with the one-bedroom. The massage is on Day 2, at either 14:00 or 16:00; she picked 16:00, just right for after a nap.

  • Two nights in a private pool villa
  • Traditional Balinese massage for two, 90 minutes
  • One floating breakfast
  • One-way airport transfer

Adding a sunrise yoga class in the rice fields: how the discount works

The listing's "Add an experience" section has only one option, but it was exactly what she wanted: "Ubud, Bali | Sunrise yoga in the rice fields," NT$1,350/person, 90 minutes. Class is held in a bamboo pavilion beside the rice terraces, followed by a coconut smoothie bowl; there's hotel pickup and drop-off in the Ubud area, classes are taught in English, and it's marked beginner-friendly.

To add another experience, she books it separately on that venue's page. The booking card lists only this hotel's plan price and the Sunlight points earned on this booking, so everything is clear and she doesn't need to pull out a calculator.

Free cancellation for this bundle is up to 3 days before, and "Exclusions & restrictions" states that round-trip transportation, meals not listed in the plan and add-on experiences chosen separately aren't included, and that the experience time must be chosen before check-in. She booked her flights separately; everything else was settled on this one page.

All I said was 'I want a morning without an alarm,' and then that morning, I was the one who wanted to get up early to go see the rice fields.

Before the massage, tell the venue about your body

Grace is a dentist who spends her days looking down at her work, and her right shoulder is tighter than her left. Massage listings usually remind you to arrive 10 minutes early and to mention pregnancy, broken skin or allergies in advance. She planned to use "Ask the host" on the listing to leave a message first: "My right neck and shoulder are tight, please avoid applying pressure directly on the cervical spine," so the venue would see it while preparing.

The "Exclusions and restrictions" and "Cancellation & notes" blocks lower down the listing list the terms once more: the free-cancellation deadline, what is not included and the usage restrictions; for a trip abroad the name must match the passport, which she noted separately on her pre-trip checklist. When you try to book an item marked "Demo", you see "Demo items can't be booked or paid for" and are pointed to listed partners where you can book directly.

Back in Taipei, keeping the relaxation going

The first month after a trip is when it is easiest to slip back into old habits. Grace noted down two options and planned to book one every few weeks.

One is "Taipei East District | 90-minute full-body aromatherapy oil massage," NT$2,280. Before it begins, you spend 10 minutes talking about the scents you like and the areas you want to relax, and then a custom oil blend is made for you. The 120-minute plan adds a longer head and shoulder massage for NT$2,980, and the 90-minute couples room plan puts two people in the same room for NT$4,380, perfect for her and her husband. Time slots are 11:00, 13:30, 16:00 and 19:30, so it fits right into the evenings when the clinic is closed.

The other is for her curiosity: "Chiang Mai | Intro to Thai massage course," a 6-hour, one-day class where you learn a complete Thai massage sequence from an instructor and practice on each other in pairs, earning a certificate of completion at the end. Learning to give each other a massage, she says, might be more memorable than booking another one.

After booking: cancellation deadlines and getting help

"My bookings" lists each booking's status, amount and free cancellation deadline together. Click into a booking to see each step of its progress, along with "Exclusions & restrictions"; if you're asked to pay extra on site, the page reminds you not to pay yet and to contact support directly.

When you need to cancel, press "Cancel this booking" within the free-cancellation window; the screen asks you to confirm once more and states that you will be refunded in full to the original payment method, with the refund progress listed step by step. The page also says that refunds always go back to the original payment method and are never replaced with Sunlight points.

Before leaving, she only had to check one thing: where her e-voucher is. According to the listing page, once payments open, vouchers will be sent to your email and Member center after the booking is confirmed, and you just show the QR Code on site to redeem it; the exact address and directions are also provided once the booking is complete. She added the Member center to her phone's home screen so she can open it and find everything as soon as she lands.

A reminder about pre-launch

HAOTIVA is currently adding partners one by one. Partners that are already listed can take bookings and payments online, while the villa, massages, yoga class and prices in this article are items marked "Demo": they are for display only and can't be booked or paid for. Actual partners, time slots and prices are as shown on each venue's own page.

If you are also planning an anniversary trip, you can start by describing the feeling you want in one sentence and letting the Smart Planner draft a version from the partners and hotels that are already listed, then use "Ask the host" on the listing to confirm the details.
